100 youths equipped with starter kits
A total of 100 Ajira kwa Vijana project beneficiaries under the Employment and Skills for Development in Africa (E4D) from National College of Tourism (NCT) and VETA-Kipawa have been handed over starter kits.
This programme is supported by the Prime Minister Office of Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability (PMO-LYED).
The programme is being executed by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and jointly financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union (EU), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Speaking at the event held in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, Deputy Principal – Academic, Research and Consultancy at National College of Tourism, Jesca William (NCT) urged beneficiaries to utilize the kits effectively to boost their undertakings.
On 20th June 2023, the Forum for International Cooperation (FIC) handed over starter kits to 100 Ajira Kwa Vijana project beneficiaries under the Employment and Skills for Development in Africa (E4D) from National College of Tourism (NCT) and VETA-Kipawa.
On his part, GIZ project manager Awadhi Milasi reminded the beneficiaries being engaged in the project was a precision opportunity hence they have to prove it in their various businesses they intended to deal with.
“Use the starter kits productively. Use social media to showcase your products,” the manager said.
He said the projects intends to be strengthening the institutional and technical capacities of Tanzanian TVET institutions in Dar Es Salaam, Tanga, and Dodoma through training of instructors, curriculum development and review, establishing job matching platforms and linkages to the private sector, resource mobilization, branding and marketing of institutions to attract more students.
Also, the programme aims at providing training courses, employment services, and enterprise development support to 1,000 socially and economically disadvantaged youth or forced to drop out of formal education.
For 18 months, Ajira Kwa Vijana has built a capacity of five TVETS institutions and provided technical and soft skill training to more than 1200 young men and women as well as tutors, placed more than 350 young men and women in jobs and improved their livelihoods with earnings in excess of 106,000 per month.
Also, more than 78 young women and 69 young males, who were unemployed and had no income, have managed to establish or grow their businesses. Some have employed other young people within their enterprises.
Moreover, the project also encouraged establishment of green enterprises whereby 95 beneficiaries were extensively capacitated on green business practices and established green enterprises including environment-friendly stoves, alternative bags, beehives and environment conservation.
At the well-attended event, Forum for International Cooperation (FIC) Project Manager Mr Festus Ouko said although the project will be concluded at the end of this month, beneficiaries should keep on contacting facilitators should they face some challenges.
He thanked the government’s coordination of the project has enabled youths acquire skills which will enable them to employ themselves and their fellows.
However, there are 100 beneficiaries who received technical training support from VETA-Kipawa and NCT under the project that asked for equipment support so that they could employ themselves.
To support their goals, FIC- under Ajira Kwa Vijana, will help them with starter kits so that they can employ themselves and other youth in the future.
