200m/-allocated for e-library, Library Management System

ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar Ministry of Education and Vocational Training has said that it has allocated more than 200m/- for the initial establishment of ‘e-library system and Library Management System,’ to enable students, readers and researchers to access information in modern ways.

“We have been moving on well in digitizing our library, we do not want to lag behind others in the electronic library because this is where the world is.

Our students will soon shift to using e-library instead of the current visiting the library physically which is time consuming besides other inconveniences,” Deputy Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Mr Ali Abdulghulam Hussein said.

He was responding to questions from backbenchers led by Mr Ameir Abdalla Ameir (Mwanakwerekwe ) who wanted to know when students in Zanzibar will be taught the use of e-library.

The deputy minister informed the House that the project which was introduced in March this year will begin with 30 schools that will be connected with central e-library system and that in each of the school library rooms, 26 laptops will be provided, and smart screens will be fixed to be used by students and teachers.

He said the project dubbed ‘Digital Education ProjectModernization of the Zanzibar Education System’ is supported by Austria.
