2024 Form VI exam pass rate records slight rise

DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has released the 2024 Form VI National Examination results (ACSE), indicating a 0.02 per cent increase in pass rate compared to last year’s outcomes.

Announcing the results on Saturday  NECTA Executive Director Dr Said Mohamed said that a total of 111,056 out of 113,536 school and private candidates who registered for the examination passed.

Dr Mohamed informed journalists that the number of candidates who sat for this year’s examination and passed increased, compared to last year whereby a total of 104,549 candidates, equivalent to 99.23 per cent passed the examination.

This year’s overall pass rate has increased by 0.02 per cent.

“The number of candidates who passed this year’s examination is equivalent to 99.43 per cent, including 49,837 female (99.61 per cent) and 61,219 male (99.28 per cent).

The overall pass rate has increased by 0.02 percent compared to last year.”

He said the statistics show that girls have continued to perform well in various subjects by 99.61 per cent.

Mr Mohamed further said that 7,804 private candi- dates passed the Form Six exams, representing 93.34 per cent compared to 8,539 last year’s candidates, equivalent to 92.30 per cent who passed the exam, indicating an improved performance of this year’s private candidates by 1.04 per cent.

He said the quality of passing in terms of grades indicate that the number of candidates obtaining divisions I, II, and III in 2024 has increased to 102,719 from 95,442 candidates in 2023.

“While the overall pass rate has increased, the quality of passing has also im- proved by 0.1 per cent com- pared to last year,” he noted.

According to the NECTA, most candidates in 2024 fall into divisions I and II, with 47,862 candidates (46 per cent) in division I and 42,359 candidates (41 per cent) in division II.

According to Dr Mo- hamed, the pass rates by subjects indicate that over 94 per cent of candidates passed with grades I and II in languages, social sciences, business and economics subjects, whereas in natural sciences, the pass rate was 79.4 per cent.

“In terms of numbers, 31,386 candidates obtained grades I and II in natural sci- ences, while 30,126 candidates achieved grades I and II in social sciences,” he said.

Dr Mohamed emphasised that with the overall improvement in passing standards this year, a closer examination by subject reveals consistent enhancements in the quality of passing across all subjects.

NECTA also released the results for Grade A Teachrrs’ Certificate Examination (GATCE) Grade A Teacher’s Special Course Certificate Examination (GATSCCE) and Diploma in Secondary Education Examination (DSEE). The executive director said that NACTE Board directed the nullification of results of 24 candidates including 22 Form VI candidates (17 school candidates and five private candidates), while two were candidates for the teachers’ examination.
