Aweso instructs DAWASA to pull up socks in services delivery
DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Water Mr Jumaa Aweso has tasked the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) to intensify its strength in the area of service delivery, especially in connecting water services to customers on time.
The minister made the remark on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam when visiting and inspecting the water projects at DAWASA region of Mbagala.
Mr Aweso said much as the authority continues to strengthening the access to water, there was still a room for further improvement.
He highlighted three areas that the authority needs to pay attention to in improving service delivery as connecting the services to the customers on time, to control water losses resulting from the deterioration of water infrastructure and ensuring bills are compatible with the customers’ water consumption.
“Currently, DAWASA has many water projects, but we must increase our strength in the service delivery areas from time to time … if a customer requests to be connected to water services, then they should be connected on time (within 14 days) without delay(s),” Mr Aweso underlined.
He also directed DAWASA executives, especially the managers, to stop working from their offices, demanding them to regularly get out to fields and observe the statuses of water availability in their administrative areas.
Moreover, he instructed the authority to respond and act quickly on the information provided by ‘wanachi’ regarding the damaged infrastructure such as pipe leakages to reduce non-revenue water (NRW).
Earlier, giving the report on water accessibility in the DAWASA region, Mbagala, Director of Infrastructure Development Engineer Ramadhan Mtindas said that the status of water availability in the region continues to improve, with supply services reaching 52 out of 67 streets.
“Our service has reached a total of 52 streets in Mbagala DAWASA region, and 15 remaining streets are in the plan to be reached, as the projects that have been designed and those which continue to be implemented are expected to respond to this deficiency,” he added.
He also said that there are currently various projects underway in the Mbagala region, including the construction of OFF-GRID water supply distribution at Kigamboni and Temeke municipalities.
Eng Mtindas also said DAWASA Mbagala region serve 10 wards, including Kibondemaji, Mianzini, Mbagala Kuu, Charambe, Chamazi, Mbagala, Kijichi, Kiburugwa, Toongoma and Kilungule.
On his part, Temeke District Commissioner (DC) Mr Mobhare Matinyi commended the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, for allocating a lot of funds to implement development projects in the district.
DC Matinyi said during the last fiscal year, the district received 152bn/- to implement various development projects, while 15.5bn/- was used to implement water projects.
