Azam Coach calls for better finishing after draw

DAR ES SALAAM: AZAM coach Rachid Taoussi acknowledged the need for better offensive play and finishing after his team’s goalless draw against Pamba Jiji in the Premier League match at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

This was Taoussi’s debut match as head coach, following the departure of his predecessor Youssouph Dabo. ”

We aimed to win this match to give our fans their first victory of the season, but things didn’t go as planned. We have only had five days with the team, so it’s challenging,” Taoussi said.

“We performed well offensively in the first half but struggled to score. We need to improve our scoring efficiency for upcoming games.”

Taoussi also noted that a red card shown to defender Cheikh Sidibe made things tough for them, as Pamba Jiji took advantage of their numerical advantage and dominated.

Azam remains winless after their opening two league fixtures and will next face Simba, who have secured six points from their first two games.

Pamba Jiji’s coach, Goran Kopunovic, commended his players for their adherence to the game plan, emphasising the importance of a solid defence against Azam.

“We defended and attacked well throughout the match and were better in transitions, though we didn’t manage to secure the win,” Kopunovic said.

He urged his team to maintain their aggressive approach and expressed confidence in their fitness for the ongoing 2024/25 season.

Pamba Jiji, who has drawn their last three matches, will next face Singida Black Stars at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

Singida Black Stars currently lead the table with nine points from three games, presenting a tough challenge for Pamba Jiji.
