BDL’s second phase rescheduled

DAR ES SALAAM: BASKETBALL Dar es Salaam (BD) has stated that the Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) 2024 second phase would be rescheduled to Tuesday next week or until after the Taifa Cup.
The annual league second phase was early slated to take off tomorrow at the Oysterbay, Upanga stadium in Dar es Salaam.
However, the BD technical and competition director Haleluya Kavalambi informed the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the league will not begin on Saturday as early anticipated.
“I would like to inform all stakeholders that the second phase of the BDL battle, initially planned for June 1st this year, has been rescheduled.
“We are now expecting to start whether June 4 or will have to wait until July 4 soon after the Taifa Cup tournament,” said Kavalambi without unveiling the reasons behind the postponement.
Taifa Cup organised by Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) the 2023 delayed CRDB Bank Taifa Cup Basketball competition is scheduled from 19th to 29th June 2024 at the country’s Capital City Dodoma.
Kavalambi also apologised on behalf of the association for any inconvenience caused by the league’s delay.
Moreover, he said that the registration process is still on as June 5 is set as a deadline.
He added that clubs should make sure they complete all the registration criteria for that small window on time.
“Registration should be 20 players, while number of foreign signings shouldn’t exceed five. For those who haven’t met that number during the first phase then are allowed to fill those spaces,” he insisted.

The league that brings together 32 teams men and women’s first-round climaxed on May 19 this year to give room for the second round.
As the first phase concluded Dar City and DB Troncatti stayed at the helms of men and women’s tables respectively.
Men’s defending champions Dar City is at the men’s summit and collected 29 points from 15 played, second placed also with 29 points from 15 matches is UDSM Outsiders and Savio is third with 28 points with 15 played.
