Biteko lauds stakeholders for advancing education

MKINGA, TANGA: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko has commended stakeholders involved in developing the education sector, urging the public to make proper use of the new infrastructure.

Speaking during the inauguration of the New Miles and Kimberly White High School in Mkinga District, the Deputy Premier expressed gratitude to the Abbot Fund for the generous support to the country’s education sector.

The school campus has been renovated and expanded to provide advanced-level, science-based education to 800 students.

The school is latest result of longstanding partnership between the government of Tanzania and Abbott Fund to build healthier, stronger communities across the country.

“I want to congratulate all the stakeholders who have participated through your time and investment, especially the Abbott Fund, for the way you have generously supported us (Tanzania), we are very grateful for all your contributions to this community, since you came here,” he said.

Dr Biteko asked all the citizens to take care of the school since it was designed to provide education to children and thus prepare future generation.

The school was renamed in honour of retired Abbott Chairman and CEO Miles White and his late wife Kimberly, who have provided longstanding support for local communities in Mkinga District, including building a primary school in nearby Bantu Village, together with Abbott Fund.

Moreover, to support the creation of the new school, Abbott Fund provided more than 4 million US dollar (about 10.9bn/-) in funding and Abbott engineers are providing ongoing technical support to ensure long-term sustainability of the campus facilities.

Abbott Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Robert Ford said alongside health, education is a cornerstone of progress and prosperity for the communities.

We have made education a key focus of our longstanding partnership in Tanzania and we are so proud to celebrate the opening of the Miles and Kimberly White High School here today,” said Mr. Ford.

“Taken together with our work to strengthen health and economic opportunity, we hope this investment in education helps more people in Tanzania live their fullest lives,” he added.

For more than two decades, Abbott and Abbott Fund have worked with the government of Tanzania to strengthen the country’s healthcare system and build healthier, stronger communities.

With more than 160 million US dollar (about 436.3bn/-) invested to date and the contributions of specialised Abbott experts, the public-private partnership is finding sustainable solutions to critical challenges from elevating testing, treatment and care for people across the country, to strengthening education and building livelihoods for families.
