Biteko to grace SHIMIWI

MOROGORO: THE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Doto Biteko (pictured), is set to officially inaugurate this year’s Inter-Ministries and Government Departments Games, popularly known as ‘SHIMIWI,’ which commence today in the Morogoro region.

Daniel Mwalusamba, the Chairman of SHIMIWI, announced that the annual event, which brings together employees from various ministries and government departments, will kick off across several venues in Morogoro.

While the games start today, the official opening ceremony is scheduled for September 25.

Mwalusamba stressed the importance of public servants adhering to ethical standards throughout the 18-day event and encouraged the residents of Morogoro to actively participate.

“We have relocated our workstations to Morogoro and we must continue to uphold the ethics of public service and maintain discipline in sports,” he stated.

He also called for dignified cheering that respects public service ethics, urging team leaders to ensure their members remain present at the camp after the games for security and health monitoring.

SHIMIWI’s Secretary-General, Alex Temba, announced that this year’s tournament will feature a variety of sports, including football, netball, tug of war, athletics and traditional games such as cards, bao, draughts and darts.

Competitions will take place at Jamhuri Stadium, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) across the Edward Moringe and Solomon Mahlangu campuses, the Institute of Construction Technology (ICoT) and the Morogoro Secondary School field.

Temba urged team leaders to finalise their registrations to ensure high standards for the competitions.

He also revealed that the National Sports Council (NSC) will be present to assist with club registrations, ensuring compliance with government regulations.

This year’s SHIMIWI theme is ‘Sports improve health, participate in local government elections for the sustainable development of our nation’.

Temba expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her support for sports and reaffirmed their commitment to participating in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 27
