Call to register for elections before deadline

ZANZIBAR: TANZANIANS who wish to cast their votes in the 2025 General Elections have been advised to rush to the registration centres or use online portal to register before time runs out.
The call was made here by Special Seats MP (CCM), Ms Tauhida Galos Nyimbo when she visited some of the voters’ registration centres in Unguja.
The MP was inspecting the progress of the exercise which started in the area on Monday this week.
“People who have not yet registered to vote, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided accessible avenues. You can either visit the registration centre near you or utilise the electoral body’s online registration portal,” said Ms Tauhida who is also a member of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) women’s wing (UWT).
She insisted on the importance of democratic participation, asking all eligible Tanzanians to exercise their right to vote peacefully and lawfully.

She also reminded politicians to encourage their followers to register themselves.
“We need people to vote, particularly CCM leaders, we need to ensure all our members are registering to guarantee our victory in the next elections,” she said.
The INEC-Commissioner High Court Judge, Asina Omari last week also appealed to stakeholders in elections, to encourage people to register themselves as it is their constitutional right to participate in electoral process.
“If you are eligible, do not miss out,” she urged political parties, faith-based organisations and NGOs to educate their followers about the importance of registering as voters.
The update of the PVR in Zanzibar targets individuals who do not qualify to be registered by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) but are eligible to vote for the President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The ZEC is responsible for overseeing Zanzibar’s councillors, House of Representatives, Union Parliament and the Zanzibar President
