CCBRT offers free eye screening to commemorate World Sight Day

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation Tanzania Hospital (CCBRT) is conducting a two-day free eye screening while warning parent to ensure their children are not extremely exposed to electronic devices’ lights as they contributing factor to vision impairment.

The free eye screening is part of commemoration of the World Sight Day which is observed every October 10 worldwide to underline the significance of eye care to all people and inspire children everywhere to appreciate their eyes.

CCBRT Hospital Chief of Medical Services and Eye specialist Dr Cyprian Ntomoka said that the two-day eye screening services started on Wednesday and it will be concluded on Thursday at Tegeta Kibo Complex in Dar es Salaam whereby recently they opened a new optical shop.

“I would like to take this opportunity to advise parents not to allow their children to use electronic devices excessively, such as mobile phones, tablets, computers, televisions, and many others, as these can threaten the eye health of our children.

Adding “I encourage parents and care takers to allow outdoors activities for children along with other measure so as to prevent vision problems associated with the use of digital devices,”

Dr Ntomaka said the hospital is committed to ensuring that the generation of children has all the information they need to protect their eyes.

Highlighting the World Sight Day, Dr Ntomoka said it also advocates for children to be free from the burden of any social stigma associated with wearing glasses and other corrective treatments.

He said the hospital offers range of eye services including routine eye examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of common eye conditions, ensuring comprehensive care for patients of all ages.

“Here we offer modern cataract surgical treatment by phacoemulsification and do most of conjunctival grafts to treat ocular surface diseases,” he said.

Furthermore, he said the hospital provides Pediatric Eye and Strabismus Services which specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders in children.

At the hospital, he said its pediatric team addresses conditions such as crossed eyes and amblyopia and fostering healthy vision from a young age.

Moreover, he said CCBRT offers retina services which focuses on complex conditions affecting the retina, including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment options including laser and vitreoretinal surgeries.

“In addition to eye examinations, we provide a wide selection of optical products, including prescription glasses and contact lenses tailored to meet individual needs” he said.

In another development Dr Ntomoka said the hospital provides prosthetic eye services for individuals who have lost an eye, our prosthetic eye services offer custom-made solutions to restore appearance and confidence.

He said CCBRT’s eye services are designed to meet the diverse needs of the community, ensuring that everyone has access to essential eye care.

This year’s theme of the World Sight Day emphasises that young people should make their vision a priority.
