CCM vows to pick competent candidates for elections

ARUSHA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has committed to presenting clean and competent candidates, free of controversies for the upcoming local government elections on November 27 this year.

The party emphasised it would not endorse candidates with arrogance or marred with corruption. This announcement was made on Sunday by the party’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Amos Makalla, while addressing residents of Mto wa Mbu area at Shirika Grounds in Monduli District, during the final day of his tour in Arusha Region.

Mr Makalla said the party is aware of some residents’ complaints of some local government leaders, accused of bad conduct and lack of financial accountability. He assured the public that CCM would not field such candidates in the upcoming elections.

“Some current leaders have become a burden, with issues ranging from poor leadership to lack of financial transparency,” Mr Makalla pointed out.

The party is focused on electing ethical and corruption-free leaders, noting that the role of local leaders is to drive development at the grassroots level.

Mr Makalla also highlighted CCM’s contributions to the national development, particularly in education, healthcare and infrastructure and urged Tanzanians not to be swayed by political promises, reminding them to protect the peace and stability of the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Makalla expressed condolences to CHADEMA following the death of Ally Kimbau, a member of the party’s secretariat and urged the police to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

He conveyed these sentiments during a meeting in Mirerani Ward, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region.

In another occasion in Coast Region, yesterday, the CCM Parents’ Wing pledged to strengthen its systems and increase membership.

Secretary General, Mr Ally Hapi, emphasised the importance of unity within the party, especially as the nation prepares for local government elections.

He also noted that the wing has begun registering members electronically to support development projects and the nation’s growth.

Regional Chairman of the parents’ wing, Mr Jackson Kituka, told the meeting that the region is not left behind in working on the strategies to revive and strengthen the Union pointing out that more individuals are now joining the Union following the efforts.

Mr Kituka said CCM in the Coast Region has no doubt of winning in the coming elections later this year and in the next year due to the good work it has done to serve the people.
