Chen: We support clean cooking energy campaign

ARUSHA: CHINESE Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms Chen Mingjian has said that China will continue to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s campaign of promoting the use of clean cooking energy in the country.

Speaking during the event prepared by Arusha Urban Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Mrisho Gambo to distribute 800 Oryx cooking gas cylinders to the teachers, journalists, drivers and registries staff, the ambassador who was the guest of honour, said since the launching of the Clean Cooking Energy Strategy 2024-2034, the government of Tanzania has demonstrated its willingness and commitment to ensure implementation of the clean cooking energy strategy.

“Chinese Embassy will continue to support Tanzania’s clean cooking energy strategy and green development policies. I hope those gas cylinders will not only improve the lives of teachers, but also sow the seeds of green environmental protection in the hearts of more students, “she said.

She added: “Tanzania is an environmentally friendly country with a strong focus on conservation. In the three years that I have been working in Tanzania, I have witnessed the remarkable achievements that Tanzania has made in the field of environmental protection, as well as boosting of the development of Tanzania’s tourism industry.”

She also encouraged Tanzanian students to learn Chinese Language saying her office is looking forward to introduce the Ambassador’s award for those who do well in Chinese Language.

She added that the embassy is planning to send Chinese teachers to Arusha and establishing Chinese sistership city with Arusha as it is for Dar es Salaam.

For his side, Mr Gambo said the gas cylinders were distributed to the teachers, journalists and City staff as part of supporting President Samia’s efforts to promote clean cooking energy campaign.

“We want this campaign to go to secondary and primary schools and we will choose one model school to install clean energy for cooking so that teachers and students could use clean cooking energy,” he said.

On his side, the Director of Oryx Energies Tanzania, Benoit Aramani said that his company will continue to distribute clean cooking energy in support of the implementation of the clean energy cooking programme that will take more than 10 years.

He said that more than 80 per cent of Tanzanians will be using clean cooking energy by the year 2030.
