Competency based curriculum hyped as Mkenda tables 2023/24 spending plan

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda has tabled 1.7tri/- spending plan for the next financial year as his ministry eyes to implement various projects including improvement of curriculum.

Tabling the Ministry’s budget estimates at the Parliament in Dodoma on Tuesday morning, Prof Mkenda said the Ministry will complete curriculum issues in the next FY.

The developed competency based curriculum expects to address the current market needs, according to the Minister.

Elaborating, Prof Mkenda said out of the requested amount, 537.9bn/- is for recurrent expenditure while 500.957bn/- others will be used for salaries.

Additionally, a total of 36.9bn/- is for other uses.

He said that the amount of 1.14tri/- will be injected into development projects for approval is for development projects of which 979.08bn/- expected to be generated from local sources and 158.8bn/- from development partners.

On the other hand, the Minister asked lawmakers to approve a total of 2.7bn/- for the National Commission for UNESCO.

Out of the said amount, 1.12bn/- is for recurrent expenditure while remaining 1.6bn/- will be used for other expenses.

However, the MPs praised the government for improving the learning infrastructure while demanding that the priority be on technical education and increase the number of teachers in order to address the shortage.
