Convert followers into money – Deputy Speaker

DODOMA: DEPUTY Speaker Mussa Azzan Zungu has encouraged Simba Sports to capitalise on its social media following and turn it into revenue for the club.

He made this call during the Simba Executive Network (SEN) dinner in Dodoma, emphasising the need for diverse revenue sources to ensure economic stability for the club.

Zungu highlighted the importance of utilising the club’s six million Instagram followers to generate income, suggesting that even a small monthly contribution from each follower could amount to substantial monthly revenue.

“Revenue contributes to the growth of sports and clubs. We should leverage our 6 million Instagram followers to produce cash for Simba, rather than merely congratulating ourselves on the number of users. How much can we make per month if each of our six million followers contributes 400/-?” Zungu inquired.

“We should have alternative income collecting methods. Having only one will not get us anywhere. It is not necessary for Simba followers to be Tanzanians exclusively; if we do well, we may attract admirers from beyond the country,” he said.

Zungu also emphasised on the need for additional revenue streams beyond merchandise sales, suggesting that the club should look beyond its domestic fan base to attract international supporters.

In addition, Zungu praised the efforts of Club President Mohamed Dewji ‘Mo’ in raising the standard of football in the country, acknowledging his significant financial contributions to the club’s success.

Furthermore, he recommended that the club’s Instagram account should feature the club’s history, from its earlier names such as Morning Star and Eagle of the Night to its current identity as Simba.

Simba Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Imani Kajula announced plans to construct an artificial turf in Bunju, Dar es Salaam, to accommodate the club’s teams.

Additionally, he revealed that modern hostels with necessary facilities for a modern club will be constructed in the next phase of the Simba Executive Network’s plans.
