Date set for 6th Diplomatic Golf Tourney

TANZANIA: PREPARATIONS are underway for the 6th edition of the prestigious Diplomatic Golf Tournament, which will attract golfers from the East African Community (EAC) and beyond.
The eagerly awaited event is scheduled for September 21-22 at the Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate in Arusha, where this annual event promises an exciting competition on a championship course.
Organised in collaboration with the Mississippi Foundation (SOMI) and host club Kili Golf, the two-day, 36-hole tournament is open to diplomats, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and golfers in both men and ladies’ categories.
Tournament coordinator, Reinfrida Rwezaura recently informed the ‘Daily News’ that registration is now open.
Participants have the option to compete in either one or both rounds of the event.
She added that invitations have been extended to various clubs and individual golfers and those interested can also register through the SOMI Foundation’s website at somifoundation.or.tz.
The primary objective of the tournament is to raise funds to support orphanages and assist those in need, including helping pregnant girls return to school.

Additionally, the event provides a platform for golfers to showcase their skills and sportsmanship, while also contributing to the country’s efforts to boost tourism through sports.
Rwezaura is encouraging golfers from both within the country and abroad to register in large numbers to support this noble cause.
She also noted that sponsorship opportunities are available, inviting those interested to contribute while enjoying the scenic beauty of the Kili Golf course.
The event not only offers golfers a chance to demonstrate their talent but also plays a crucial role in raising funds for children in need in Songea Municipality.
Last year’s tournament, attended by Chief Guest Emanuela Kaganda, Arumeru District Commissioner, saw Arusha Gymkhana Club junior Shane Pandit emerge as the overall champion with an impressive 88 Stableford points, defeating a field of over 120 golfers in a tworound competition.
On his part, SOMI Director, Hilary Ndumbaro expressed his gratitude to the supporters of the event.
“With heartfelt appreciation, I want to thank everyone involved.
This event has been extraordinary since its inception and it wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our sponsors and the enthusiastic participation of all the golfers,” he said.
