Defence Ministry’s to-do list as MPs endorse 2.98tri/- spending plan

LAWMAKERS have universally passed the Ministry of Defence and National Service’s 2.98tri/- spending plan for the next 2023/24 financial year for the docket to implement nine activities including establishment of defence industries.

The MPs endorsed the budget estimates in Dodoma on Wednesday after Minister Innocent tabled the Ministry’s plan for next financial year which focuses on nine areas.

Disaggregating the figure, Mr Bashungwa told MPs that of the requested amount, approximately 2.8tri/- is for recurrent expenditures while the remaining 222.8bn/- will be injected in the development projects.

Apart from industries, the Minister told MPs, the Ministry is determined to equip the army with modern equipment, communication and human resources.

“The Ministry is determined to improve the Army’s camp and border infrastructures,” he said.

MPs applauded the Army for innovation and patriotism, calling for the Ministry to inject more monies for the former to take part in State’s key sector including but not limited to agriculture and industries.

After the approval, Speaker Dr Tulia Ackson encouraged the lawmakers to voluntarily attend the National Service training since it a precious opportunity for them not only to be physically fit, but also to learn various issues.

“There is a difference between those who attended and those who have not attended the national service training… I’m not saying that you’re not patriotics but should you attend the training, you will be more patriotics to the country,” the Speaker told the MPs.
