East Africa Golf Tourney Draws Over 100 Top Golfers

DAR ES SALAAM: THE East Africa Golf Tour tournament kicked off with great enthusiasm at Tanzania’s Lugalo Golf Club, featuring a line-up of distinguished players including General (rtd) George Waitara, Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, Ambassador Job Masima and Edmund Mndolwa.
Among other prominent participants were Paul Russo, CEO of KCB Group PLC, Laurance Kimathi and Group Chief Finance Officer of KCB Group from Kenya, Masika Mukule, Managing Director of KCB Burundi and Cosmas Kimario, Director of KCB Bank Tanzania.
Kimario highlighted that the tournament spans across all five East African Community (EAC) nations—Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania—beginning in Burundi and now hosted in Tanzania, with plans to continue through the region culminating in the Kenyan finals.
“This initiative not only promotes sports tourism but also underscores our commitment to supporting sports development, including investment in junior golf,” Kimario emphasised.
The event, set in the scenic grounds of Lugalo Golf Club, drew accolades from Michael Luwongo, Chairman of Lugalo, who commended the swift turnout and thanked KCB Bank Tanzania for bringing the prestigious tournament to Dar es Salaam.

“The tournament serves as a crucial platform for fostering and advancing the sport,” Luwongo remarked.
He further noted that following the intense 18-hole competition, four top golfers—regardless of gender—would secure slots to represent Lugalo Club and Tanzania at the grand finale in Nairobi later this year, courtesy of KCB Bank Tanzania.
“This tournament not only promises competitive golf but also offer substantial prizes across various categories,” he added.
Kimario reiterated that the choice of Lugalo Golf Club was driven by its exceptional standards and warm hospitality, aligning with KCB’s broader community investment goals through sports and social initiatives.
