Egypt marks 51st October Victory with Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM: The Egyptian Defence Attaché on Thursday celebrated the 51st anniversary of the October War Victory, a historic event that reshaped Egypt’s destiny in 1973.

The commemoration, held in Dar es Salaam, was graced by Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and National Service, Dr. Faraji Mnyepe, alongside Egyptian Defence Attaché, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Abdel Sadek Fargo, and senior military officials from both nations.

Speaking at the event, Brig. Gen. Fargo lauded the bravery of the Egyptian Armed Forces during the October War, describing it as a defining moment that united the Egyptian people.

He paid tribute to the late President Anwar El Sadat for his “courageous leadership in seeking peace through strength,” highlighting the pivotal role of Egyptian soldiers in securing the nation’s victory.

The Egyptian Defence Attaché underscored the military’s significant contribution to regional stability, noting its continued efforts in combating terrorism, protecting national borders, and addressing organized crime.

He also reiterated Egypt’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution, emphasizing Egypt’s role in advocating for justice and peace in the region.

In his remarks, Dr. Mnyepe expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between Tanzania and Egypt, urging further collaboration in areas such as infrastructure and agricultural development.

He emphasized the shared vision of peace and development, which he described as the cornerstone of the bilateral relationship.

The Defence Attaché also highlighted the importance of educational and cultural exchanges, noting that Tanzanian students are warmly welcomed to study in Egypt.

He emphasized the mutual benefits of knowledge transfer and resource sharing, which can strengthen ties between the two nations.

“Egypt is invited to invest directly in our country. Our shared commitment to peace and development underscores our compatibility as partners, and together, we can work for the welfare of our people,” Dr. Mnyepe stated.

The Egyptian Defence Attaché also called for joint efforts in combating climate change, stressing the need for both countries to collaborate on sustainable solutions.

He noted that environmental challenges transcend borders and that collective action is essential for promoting sustainability and addressing ecological issues.
