Ex-Simiyu RC charged with unnatural offence

SIMIYU: FORMER Simiyu Regional Commissioner, Yahya Nawanda, appeared before Mwanza Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday facing charges of unnatural offence.

Nawanda, represented by Advocate Constantine Mutalemwa, denied the charge before Principal Resident Magistrate Erick Maley.

He was granted bail after fulfilling bail conditions, which included securing two sureties, one of whom must be a public servant, and signing a bond of 5m/- for each surety.

State Attorney Magreth Mwaseba, prosecuting the case, informed the court that Nawanda allegedly committed the offence on June 2, 2024, at Kirumba area within Nyamagana District, Mwanza City.

The former RC is alleged to have carnal knowledge the student (name withheld) against the order of nature at parking yard of a Commercial Building, commonly known as Rock City Mall.

According to the state attorney who was assisted by Martha Mtiti, the charge against Nawanda is under section 154 (1) (a) of the Penal Code, which deals with carnal knowledge against the order of nature.

The prosecution informed the court that investigations into the matter have been completed. The magistrate adjourned the trial to June 16, 2024 for preliminary hearing.
