Fallen former Minister Membe laid to rest

BERNARD Membe, a former State Minister under President Jakaya Kikwete who died last week over chest complications has been laid to rest in his ancestral village Rondo – Chiponda in Lindi region.

Hundreds of well wishers, friends, relatives and officials including the Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa and former President Dr. Kikwete attended the funeral services for the 70years-old service man and diplomat held on Tuesday May 16.

Speaking during the event, on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Prime Minister asked citizens to honor all the good things that were done by the deceased when he was alive.

The 70 year old diplomat passed away at Kairuki Hospital in Dar es Salaam early Friday.

Early reports say the former presidential candidate under ACT-Wazalendo party rushed to the said hospital due to chest complications.

He served as a Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2007 to 2015 under President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
