Four ex-Police Officers in court for murder case

KAGERA: HUNDREDS of anxious people thronged the Kagera Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to have a glimpse of seven people including four former Police Officers accused of murder.

Security was tight with armed detectives covering all areas when the accused persons arrived at the court premises at around 10 am.

Prosecuting State Attorney Agnes Awino named the accused persons before the fully-packed courtroom as John Christian Mweji (38), Ahmed Ally Rashid (38), Francis Patrick Masai (26) and Ally Jumanne Ally (32), all ex-police officers stationed in Kagera region.

Others were identified as Emmanuel Mafuru Massatu ((32), Evodius Benedict Rukaka (37) and Athuman Selemani Malimbo (37) all residents of Muleba District’s Goziba Island.

She told the court that on June 12, this year the seven accused persons jointly and together murdered the late Baraka Lucas, who was being detained at Goziba Police Post, in Muleba District.

She also informed the court that investigations had not been completed.

The accused persons were not asked to enter pleas because the murder case will be tried and heard by the High Court at a later date.

Kagera Resident Magistrate Jannet Massesa adjourned the Inquiry Case No 18914/2024 to August 6, this year and ordered the accused persons to be remanded.
