Geita, Songwe set for epic netball final

TABORA: GEITA and Songwe regional netball teams have booked their tickets into the finals of Inter-Secondary Schools games (UMISSETA), after outshining their opponents in the semifinals held yesterday in Tabora region. G

eita who are the defending champions advanced into the finals to set a date with Songwe after they defeated the host region Tabora by 68- 32 goals while Songwe edged Mwanza by 53-32 goals in the second semi-final game.

The defending champions Geita took the game in high tempo from the word go and completely outshined their opponents as they took the first quarter of the match by 18-7 goals, and until the breather hosts Tabora were trailing behind by 33- 16 goals.

In the third quarter, Geita continued to dominate the game and took the third quarter by 54-23 goals, whereas, in the second semi-final, Mwanza lost to Songwe after managed to take all the quarters of the game with 15-8, 29-15 and 40-25 goals respectively.

Speaking after the game Geita skipper Lucia Yusuf said confidently that they are well prepared to defend their title against Songwe as they are determined to emerge winners in the final.

On her part, Songwe captain Nusrat Hassan expressed their joy for advancing to the finals after outshining Mwanza saying they are now thirsty to win this championship from their opponents Geita.

“We won the netball title in 2022, but last year we lost it, but this year we want to retain the title and go back home with the trophy, we are well prepared for the final battle so we can get good results,” said Nusrat.

Commenting about the ongoing games, Coach and a Technical Committee member of the Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA), Damiani Chonya said he has witnessed a lot of talents in the game from UMISSETA and UMITASHUMTA respectively.

“I was here during UMITASHUMTA, and the talent shown during the competition attracted me to come and witness UMISSETA, whereby I have as well, witnessed many talents and to me, this is a wake up call for CHANETA to utilise these youngsters in the youth and senior national teams.
