Geita win 2024 Umisseta football title

TABORA: AN own goal by Tabora regional football team defender, Yusuf Kapalata ensured defending champions, Geita region retain the InterSecondary Schools games (UMISSETA) football title for the second consecutive year in the just-ended games.

Kapatala’s own goal came in the 27th minute of the thrilling final game held at the Tabora Boys’ Secondary School ground which saw the host side going down by 2-1, with the defending champions opening the score a few seconds after the kickoff through striker Elkana Daniel.

The hosts Tabora fired back to revive their hope of dethroning Geita two minutes later by leveling the score in the 2nd minute of the game through Sailas Manyika before Kapalata’s own goal while trying to clear the ball from his goal line, which saw Geita back in the lead.

In the girls’ football category, Mwanza emerged champions after defeating their Lake zone neighbours Mara by 8-7 goals on penalties after their game ended in a barren draw.

In netball, Geita continued to dominate the game after it managed to defend their title by defeating Songwe by 43-34 goals in the final game while Mwanza settled in the third position following their 54-42 goals victory over Tabora.

In the volleyball final for the girl’s category, Mtwara alias ‘Cashew Nuts Queens’ were crowned champions after winning the final game against Mbeya by a 3-0 set while Mwanza took the third slot after a 3-2 set win against Tabora.

However, the Mwanza girls had consolation after the Mwanza boys’ team clinched the title by beating Tabora by 3-2 set in the game and Tanga clinched the third slot after thrashing Mara by 3-0 set.

Other final games saw Arusha girls’ team defending their basketball title after a 67-27-point win over Mwanza and Dar es Salaam settled in the third position, where in the boys’ discipline Dar es Salaam won the event by defeating Mwanza by 102- 36 points and Pemba clinched the third position.
