Govt allocates 50bn/- for Kirumba Stadium renovation

MWANZA: THE government has allocated 50bn/- for renovation of CCM Kirumba Stadium, in preparation for hosting matches during the AFCON finals in 2027.

The Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Damas Ndumbaro, announced this during his inspection of the stadium’s infrastructure on Wednesday, emphasising that the renovations will commence soon.

“The Kirumba Stadium is among the five venues planned by the government for the AFCON finals, to be jointly hosted with Kenya and Uganda in 2027,” Ndumbaro explained.

He highlighted that the government conducted the inspection to assess current conditions ahead of planned renovations to meet AFCON requirements.

“We will begin with the construction of stadiums in Arusha and Dodoma, each taking 24 months. The renovation of CCM Kirumba Stadium will span eight months, ensuring timely completion,” Ndumbaro assured.

Ndumbaro underscored the importance of sports beyond entertainment and health, noting its role in job creation.

He detailed the renovation plans, which include improving the pitch, installing roofs, seats and lights to meet AFCON standards.

“We are investing with confidence that teams will choose our venues, where final group matches can be held simultaneously to prevent result manipulation. This approach will enhance ticket sales by offering three matches per venue,” he added.

Ilemela Member of Parliament, Angeline Mabula, expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for prioritising sports infrastructure needs and applauded Minister Ndumbaro’s decision to renovate CCM Kirumba Stadium.

“We appreciate having a President who understands our community’s needs. Sports facilities are essential for combating non-communicable diseases and promoting healthy lifestyles,” Mabula remarked
