Govt announces A-Level, college admissions
TANZANIA: A TOTAL of 188,787 students including 812 with special needs have been selected to join Form Five and various technical colleges and middle cadre training institutions for the 2024 academic year.
The selected students are from public and private schools, and private candidates who did their exams under the Institute of Adult Education.
Announcing the students’ selection here on Thursday, Minister of State in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa said that it was done in accordance with the implementation of the 2014 Education and Training Policy revised in 2023 and the revised curriculum.
“Therefore, all 188,787 qualified students, including 812 students with special needs have been selected to join Form Five and technical colleges and middle cadre training institutions in various fields,” Mchengerwa said.

Minister Mchengerwa further said that 131,986 qualified students, where 66,432 were girls and 65,554 boys, adding: “Some 622 have been selected to join Form Five and 82 joining new schools opening this year.” He further said that of the students, some 1,462, where 669 were girls and 793 boys have been selected to join eight secondary schools, which admit students with high performance including Kilakala, Mzumbe, Ilboru, Kisimiri, Msalato, Kibaha, Tabora Boys, and Tabora Girls.
In addition, some 6,576 students, where 3,449 were girls and 3,127 boys have been registered to join Day Secondary Schools while 123,948 students with 62,636 girls and 61,312 boys have been selected to join National Boarding Secondary Schools.
Mchengerwa also mentioned that 56,801 students (17,332 girls and 39,469 boys) were posted to various Diploma Courses at Technical Colleges under the National Council for Technical Education (NACTVET).
Among them, 2,107 students (804 girls and 1,303 boys) have been selected to join four Technical Colleges including Arusha Technical College (ATC), Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), and the Water Development and Management Institute (WDMI).
Additionally, 2,019 students (1,011 girls and 1,008 boys) were chosen to join health colleges at the diploma level.
Mchengerwa further stated that 52,675 students (15,717 girls and 37,158 boys) were selected for various diploma courses citing them as agriculture, animal husbandry, administration, business and other fields at various technical education colleges in the country.
He assured that the government had ensured that all qualified students were placed in schools and technical education colleges.
“This is part of the government’s commitment in providing services to all Tanzanians especially during this time of free education,” he pointed out.

Equally, Mchengerwa expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her efforts in ensuring the availability of educational infrastructures, which have enabled all qualified students to be selected to join Form Five and various colleges.
Additionally, Mchengerwa announced that the first term for Form Five students will begin on July 1 this year and urged the selected students to start reporting to their respective schools from June 30 this year.
“The deadline for students to report to their respective schools will be July 14, 2024,” he emphasised.
