Govt commits to support digital tech

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has reiterated its commitment to create friendly environment to advance digital technology to enhance its contribution to economic development.
This was said by Deputy Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination) Mr Anderson Mutatembwa at the 4th edition of the Tanzania Digital Awards (TDA) in Dar es Salaam recently.
“The government recognises the critical role that digital innovation plays in achieving our national development goals, and we are committed to creating an enabling environment by investing in digital transformation and promoting digital operations,” he said.

He said the success of the digital transformation does not depend on the government’s efforts alone, but on the contribution of the private sector players, innovators and the youth and the creativity of the people.
The Tanzania Digital Awards (TDA) is a prestigious awards scheme that recognises and celebrates excellence in utilising digital technologies to drive positive societal change in Tanzania.
The initiative spotlights individuals and organisations that leverage digital technologies to inspire actions, instigate change, and create lasting impacts within and beyond the online community.
The Director of Serengeti Bytes, the organisers of the event, Mr Kennedy Mmari said the aim of the awards is to promote the best use of digital technologies for development, inspire creativity and innovation through digital technologies and attract development stakeholders’ efforts in digitalization.
He said the TDA 2023 involved several categories, including digital innovation, digital banking, digital and telecommunications, digital communication, digital entertainment, digital marketing and business, digital media, digital governance, digital and non-profit sector, Tanzania innovation award, people’s choice awards and the honorary award.
