Govt strengthens relations with diaspora community

THE establishment of the Department of International Cooperation and Diaspora Coordination (DICDC) has significantly enhanced relations with the diaspora community, positively impacting the country’s economic growth and the well-being of its people.
Minister of State in the President’s Office (State House Affairs and Diaspora), Mr Ali Suleiman Ameir, highlighted key achievements since the DICDC’s inception.
These include improvements to the Zanzibar Diaspora Affairs Policy of 2017, the Diaspora Affairs Act No. 4/2020 with accompanying regulations, and the creation of an electronic system for diaspora registration.
The minister’s comments came in response to a question from Mr Ameir Abdallah Ameir, who inquired about the relationship between the government and Tanzanian diaspora abroad, as well as their contributions to Zanzibar’s development.

Mr Ali Suleiman Ameir emphasized that the existing laws and policy guidelines have inspired public institutions to incorporate diaspora issues into their sector-specific laws, policies, regulations, and guidelines.
The revised laws addressing the interests of the diaspora include the Zanzibar Investments and Promotion Authority (ZIPA) Investments Act No. 10/2023, the Land Commission Law No. 6/2015 (pertaining to land fees and charges), and the Immigration Law, Chapter No. 54 (regarding permits).
