High court judge calls for safeguarding infrastructures in public institutions

HEADS of public institutions have been urged to cooperate with the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) to sustain government infrastructures for safety and health of employees.

The plea was issued over the weekend by Morogoro Zone Judge in Charge Paul Ngwembe when the OSHA was concluding an inspection of an Integrated Justice Centre (ICJ) in Morogoro Region.

The inspection went in line with building capacity among judicial staff of the centre over the matters of safety and health at the workplace.

In recent days the government has invested heavily in the construction of better offices for the judiciary.

“Therefore, we as leaders we are aware of the importance of ensuring that such government’s investments are safeguarded so that they last longer,” Justice Ngwembe stated.

“This is why we think it necessary to collaborate with the OSHA who are experts on matters of safety and health at workplace in order to get proper advice over protecting judiciary infrastructures.”

He vowed that his office would continue working together with the authority in ensuring that inspection of systems of safety and health at judiciary’s offices and provision of training are sustainable.

OSHA’s Chief Executive Officer Khadija Mwenda pointed out that it was important to safeguard the buildings of the judiciary and make sure they have strong systems of safety and health.

“I commend the Sixth-Phase Government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for doing significant investment in improving quality of infrastructures of the judiciary offices in the country, something which would enable attainment of speedy delivery of justice to citizens,’ Ms Mwenda stated.

Ms Lilian Kombe, one of employees of the High Court Morogoro Zone who attended the training, said they learnt many things about health and safety when at workplaces.
