Hundreds pay last respects to Major General Mbuge

DAR ES SALAAM: Minister for Defence and National Security, Dr Stergomena Tax, has led hundreds of mourners to pay their last respects to the departed Major General Charles Mbuge at the Lugalo Military Hospital in Dar es Salaam today.

Other dignitaries who attended the farewell ceremony included the Retired Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Venance Mabeyo and the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila.

The ceremony began at 9:00am and thereafter the body of the deceased will be transported to Kyabakari in Mara region for burial on Thursday.

The former Head of National Services Major General (Rtd) Charles Mbuge, passed away on Saturday while receiving medical treatment in India.

The 61-year-old man, completed his primary education at Lugalo Primary School (1974-1980) and his secondary education at Kigurunyembe Secondary School (1981-1984).

He joined the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) on January 1, 1985, and attended various military courses, culminating in his commissioning as an officer on March 28, 1991.

Over a distinguished career spanning 38 years, seven months and four days, he rose through the ranks, attaining the prestigious rank of Major General on June 2, 2020.

He held several significant positions, including Head of the National Service (2019-2021), Regional Commissioner of Kagera (2021-2022) and Coordinator for Disaster Management at the Prime Minister’s Office until his retirement on October 5, 2023.

His unwavering leadership and commitment to the nation left a profound impact on both the military and civilian sectors.
