IGP Wambura recalls Dodoma RPC, appoints new replacement

DODOMA: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura has transferred the Dodoma Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Theopista Mallya to the Police Headquarters replacing her with SACP George Katabazi.
The changes came a few hours after discussions and criticisms were all over social media regarding statements made by SACP Mallya. She was quoted saying the girl who was raped on May this year was a harlot.
The police further distanced itself from the RPC statement but shared a public apology to those who were dismayed by the report on the internet.
Police Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime, said the police were investigating the conversation between the officer and the journalist to identify the authenticity of the social media reports.
According to Misime, the officer was requested by the reporter to comment on the whereabouts of the investigations into the matter which netzen claim it involves people in the police force.
The reporter further alleged that the victim in question is claimed to be a prostitute. She was wrongly interpreted, and the media report further created havoc in the social media.
According to DCP Misime, the commander told the reporters that, even if the girl was a prostitute, she didn’t deserve what was done to her.
The Police insisted its statement remains unchanged to that of August 4, 6 and 9, 2024.
“We would like to apologize to everyone who has been touched and offended by the statement circulating on the media while we are still monitoring to find its accuracy of the statement,”
