Inclusive education empowers people with disabilities

In the modern world modern world, there are many reasons to provide opportunities for students with disabilities to learn and interact with their peers without disabilities.
This is because, integrating students can be beneficial for both groups of the students, as well as for their parents, teachers and programme administrators.
Put in another way, inclusive education helps special-needs students understand the real world.
It helps them become aware of those with unique physical and social skills and appreciate the diversity and above all it helps to remove the stigma attached to disabilities.
It is common for those with disabilities to experience discrimination in some way throughout their lives.
Believe it or not, but discrimination can present itself within education, health care facilities, employment and even the justice system-something that all Tanzanians must say no to.
Through disability awareness, the misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding those with disabilities can be brought to the forefront and fought.
When these are gone, attitudes and behaviors become more positive and impactful.
Starting with yourself, digging deeper to create a better understanding is a powerful way to raise awareness.
It is simply not enough to only recognise that discrimination against people with disabilities is wrong.
There must be a greater awareness within each person to distinguish between good and poor practices and this should be shared in all institutions, where people gather.
Equally, as an employer and active member of society, acknowledging that everyone is unique is the first step.
As much as each person is different, there are similarities too.
Here, everyone wants to feel accepted and valued, that is why the government is mobilising all Tanzanians regardless of one’s physical and mental status that we are all equal and require the same treatments.
We must be aware that awareness campaign creates empathy; so, when you try to understand one another, it will stop that stereotyping mindset and create an inclusive and safe environment.
By self-educating, you can find ways to create change and spread the word to others.
Again, creating acceptance is a vital component to raising awareness.
To help create a better future for those with disabilities, raise awareness on platforms that can reach many people, such as social media.
In a nutshell, by giving equal opportunities and the corresponding respect, we grow a sense of confidence in the persons with disabilities and cultivate a sense of belonging.
This makes positive growth attitudes and despite any disability, a person will pursue and work on their goals, thus contributing positively to society.
With these in mind, therefore, the society needs to recognise the value that those with disabilities bring to the table and not just those who have been impacted.
