India pledges to extend training opportunities for public servants

NEW DELHI: THE Parliament of India has committed to expanding training opportunities for public servants through its Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE).
During a meeting at the Parliament Office in New Delhi, Speaker Om Birla announced this pledge to Dr. Tulia Akson, Speaker of the Tanzanian Parliament and President of the InterParliamentary Union (IPU).
Birla highlighted the increased funding and priority given to Tanzanian public servants, reflecting the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and India.
He also noted plans for PRIDE to collaborate with the IPU on training programs for its members and staff.
In response, Dr. Tulia Akson acknowledged the strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly following President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit last year, which resulted in various agreements aimed at benefiting citizens through enhanced parliamentary oversight and governance.

Both Speakers commended their governments for bolstering economic and social development cooperation, building upon centuries-old historical ties that have fostered strong people-to-people relations.
India and Tanzania’s historical relationship dates back to the ancient Monsoon Trade System, which facilitated trade between the Swahili Coast and coastal Gujarat.
This historical foundation continues to underpin modern government to-government partnerships.
