Mr Kuku asks govt to intervene in food prices

DAR ES SALAAM: A Tanzanian entrepreneur, Ramadhani Mwinjuma popularly known as Mr Kuku has asked the government to look at possible ways of curbing the rising cost of food so as to allow businessmen with low or middle capital to maintain their businesses.

Mr Makuku made the statement on Thursday in Dar es Salaam, noting that the high cost of food products in the market has not worked well for them as it stands as a threat to the growth of their businesses.

The entrepreneur whose business deals with foodstuffs such as biryani, pilau and chicken said that the high cost of products has led others to close their shops, simply because they lack customers.

This has forced them in turn to sell at a higher price to acquire gain.

“The present situation is different from the past years where despite the cost of living being high; at least the prices of products were somehow friendly. Products are very high, I think the government should lmdo something to help us so that we can be able to run our businesses’,” Mr Makuku stated.

Elaborating on how serious the situation is, he said that some of them are surviving in the business due to experience, while noting that sometimes the situation hinders them from investing more into the business as they are afraid of having loss instead of gain.

However, he advised those aspiring to venture in the same business not to be scared, adding that at the beginning of any business, it becomes tough, thereafter, it picks pace and one stabilises as the number of customers increases.
