Intracom exports 53,000 tonnes of fertiliser to Kenya

DODOMA: THE Dodoma based Itracom Fertiliser Limited is exporting almost its entire fertiliser production to Kenya and Burundi.

The fertiliser factory has produced some 75,000 tonnes since 2022 when it was commissioned, out of which 66,000 tonnes have already been sold out in both domestic and regional markets.

In domestic market the firm sold only 4,238 tonnes in Kenya 52,892 tonnes and Burundi 10,000 tonnes.

The Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, said the government continues to create friendly environment for investors, where Itracom invested in the country from Burundi.

“…but in sales Tanzania seems not to guarantee to buy its products…,” Dr Jafo said when made a tour the plant recently: “It is time now for Tanzanians to join him in buying products produced in the country.”

Dr Jafo assured the investor that the ministry will address the existing challenges, including the increased local buyer sales and cooperate also with the sectoral institutions to see that the factory works efficiently and profitably.

The Itracom Fertilize Head of the Internal Audit Unit Mr Kimaramuziro Nkurikiye said the production started in December 2022 and the fertiliser has been distributed in 21 regions.

Initially, the Head of the Research Unit, Mr Elias Uly ongabo said that the factory is currently making fertilisers for planting, growing and fattening and is in the final stages of completing research on fertilisers for tobacco, tea, avocado and grape crops.

The company is a subsidiary of FOMI Fertilisers, a Burundi-based firm responsible for manufacturing and distributing a mixture of organic and mineral fertilizers organo-mineral fertilizers in Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, and the DR-Congo under ITRACOM Holdings.
