Isles focus on spice production to maximise economic benefits

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR is focusing on spice production to maximise economic benefits as the national economy relies on tourism market, which contributes largely to the national economy, President Hussein Mwinyi said here on Tuesday.
Speaking to the visiting Iranian Minister for Agriculture Dr Gholamreza Nouri at State House, Dr Mwinyi said there is huge potential for collaboration between Tanzania and Iran, especially in agricultural sector.
President Mwinyi told the minister and his entourage of 15 experts from the Asian country’s various development sectors that strengthening of the critical historical sites of the country is key to tourism, underscoring the need for development of tourism market and sustenance of good cooperation between Tanzania, especially Zanzibar and Iran on tourism sector.

The president touched on water transport, asking Iran to increase cooperation in the area to strengthen business and economy through the ports on both sides—Zanzibar and Iran.
The visiting minister said the Iranian government seeks to sign collaboration agreement with Tanzania, especially Zanzibar, in various economic sectors.
The minister said the envisaged collaboration agreements will focus on the development of agriculture, tourism, education, business and engineering sector.
He further promised close cooperation as well as exchange of experience, technics and technology in various developmental areas.
