JKT Queens win Community Shield

DAR ES SALAAM: JKT Queens have clinched the 2024 Women’s Community Shield trophy in style after producing a 1-0 win over Yanga Princess at KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Donisia Minja made a breakthrough with a fantastic set-piece just outside the box in the 87th minute to enable her side claim the silverware.
Her superb strike went unopposed into the back of the net that stood until the final whistle sounded to end the hot match worth to be a final encounter.
The game started on top gear with each side playing cautiously not to concede first but the hosts JKT Queens were enjoying lion’s share in both segments of the clash.
They always looked dangerous when marching towards Yanga Queens’ territory prompting the latter’s defense to always be busy in diffusing lethal attacks.
For Yanga Princess, they did not have much to do in terms of goal poaching as JKT Queens goalie Najiat Abbas was not dangerously tested in the first half other than a long-range strike by Ariet Udong that went wide.
In the second half, both teams had numerous scoring opportunities but none of them managed to break the tie until the late goal sourced by Minja that separated them.
It was a tactical battle showcased by two renowned female coaches Edna Lema for Yanga Princess and Ester Chabruma for JKT Queens who have vast experience of women’s football.

Earlier on, Simba Queens punished Ceassia Queens 4-0 to finish the contest on third place while the latter occupied fourth slot.
Asha Djafari netted a brace for Simba Queens after scoring in each half of the game while Ceassia Queens player Satra Shamte scored an own goal in the 10th minute to award the hosts a beautiful goal.
After 18th minute, Precious Christopher increased the tally for her side making it 3-0 hence a difficult crossword puzzle for the visitors to solve.
For Ceassia Queens, this year’s Community Shield has been a nightmare as they have succumbed an overall 11-0 defeat in two games they played.
They went down 7-0 to JKT Queens in the semi-final clash before picking the 4-0 upset from the Women’s Premier League reigning champions Simba Queens.
