Karia urges TWFA to boost girls participation in football

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Football Federation (TFF) president, Wallace Karia, has called on the newly appointed executive committee of the Tanzania Women’s Football Association (TWFA) to intensify efforts in increasing female participation in football.
Karia conveyed his message through a press statement yesterday on Instagram.
The release highlighted that despite the progress in women’s football, significant efforts are still required to boost the number of girls participating in the sport.
In his message, Karia congratulated the newly elected TWFA committee members, who were chosen at the General Assembly held last Saturday in Moshi.
The new committee is led by Samoe Ng’itu, a veteran journalist from Nipashe newspaper, who has been appointed as Chairperson. Beatrice Mgaya has been named Vice-Chair.
Additional members of the committee include Zena Chande from HabariLeo, who will serve as a delegate to the TFF General Assembly, along with Hamisa Katambi, Irene Ishengoma and Ndinagwe Sungura.
Katambi was appointed by Ng’itu, while Ishengoma and Sungura were elected unopposed.

Karia expressed high expectations for the new committee, urging them to prioritise the development of women’s football under Ng’itu’s leadership.
He assured them of the TFF’s full support in achieving these objectives.
The growing popularity of women’s football both locally and internationally highlights the need for targeted initiatives to increase grassroots participation.
Karia’s remarks reflect a renewed commitment from the TFF to collaborate with the TWFA in addressing these challenges and strengthening the foundation for women’s football in Tanzania.
The new committee faces the dual task of managing administrative responsibilities while also fostering the growth of the sport among girls and women across the country.
With the increasing global interest in women’s football, Tanzania must work to ensure that more girls are actively involved in the game.
As the committee embarks on its new role, attention will be focused on its effectiveness in implementing strategies and programmes that will enhance female representation in football, both on and off the field.
