Katavi police nets 74 suspected criminals

KATAVI: POLICE in Katavi Region have arrested more than 74 suspects involved in various crimes.
Katavi Regional Police Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Ms Master Ngonyani told journalists over the weekend that all the suspects were arrested this week.
She further said that among 74 suspects 12 of them have been arrested for allegedly murder.
He added that the suspects were arrested following ongoing operation in the region “Preliminary investigations show that the motivated by beliefs in witchcraft, jealousy, and revenge,” she added.

The ASCP Ms Ngonyani explained that 30 suspects were detained for allegedly stealing aluminum windows from school buildings across the region.
All 74 suspects remain under police interrogation, and they will be brought to court once investigations are concluded, she said.
“As a result of these patrols which are continuous, we have achieved success in preventing and controlling criminal incidents in various areas,’’ she said.

However, among the items seized in the operation include more than seven TV sets, narcotic drugs such as marijuana and equipment used committing crimes as well as property stolen from various places.
She has asked people in the region to continue sharing information with police to curb crime in the community and help take legal action against all those who will be identified while giving a strong warning to criminals to refrain from such acts.
