Kibaha allicates 410m/- to produce 4,000 school desks

COAST REGION: KIBAHA Town Council in the Coast Region has allocated 410m/- from its revenue collections to produce 4,000 desks for government primary and secondary schools within the council.

During a handover event at Mkoani Primary School, Kibaha Town District Executive Director (DED) Dr Rogers Shemwelekwa stated that the funds for the desks were sourced from local revenue.

He noted that this initiative aims to sustainably address the shortage of desks in schools.

The council oversees a total of 66 government schools, comprising 46 primary schools and 26 secondary schools, with an overall student population of 17,424.

Dr Shemwelekwa indicated that the council’s budget for the 2023/2024 financial year is approximately 7.5bn/-, with the budget for 2024/2025 projected at 8.4bn/-, reflecting an 11 per cent increase from the previous year.

He further revealed that revenue collections for the first quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year, from July to September, have exceeded 2.8bn/-, accounting for 33.2 per cent of the total target and an 8 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

In the past three years, the council has constructed 217 classrooms and 232 toilets for schools at a cost of 4.3bn/-. Additionally, the council has received 5.1bn/- for its free education programme in primary schools.

“Today, we are launching our strategy to distribute desks for primary schools, as well as chairs and tables for secondary schools. This strategy aims to fully resolve the shortage of equipment in our schools,” he stated.

The event’s guest of honour, Member of Parliament for Kibaha Town Mr Sylvestry Koka, affirmed that the ruling party CCM leadership will continue to collaborate with the government on projects that benefit the community.

In addition to enhancing school infrastructure, ongoing efforts are being made to maintain roads in all wards of the constituency.

“A total of 10m/- has been allocated by the council for road maintenance in each ward, with work set to begin in January under the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA),” he revealed.

The event was attended by Kibaha District Commissioner Mr Nickson Simon, Kibaha Council Chairman Mr Musa Ndomba, CCM leaders, school heads, teachers from various schools, students, and residents of Kibaha Town.
