Kinana resigns from CCM’s top job

DAR ES SALAAM – Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) National Chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has accepted the resignation of her Vice Chair (Mainland) Comrade Abdulrahman Kinana with immediate effect.

CCM’s Ideology, Publicity and Training Secretary, Amos Makalla said in a statement on Monday that the president’s decision follows a letter from the Vice Chair requesting to take a break.

“Kinana had for long requested to step down,” the president said. “I appointed him and promised it won’t take long … I believe this is a promise that I should keep.”

Kinana took over the post of the ruling party vice chair in 2022 after the then office holder Philip Mangula tendered his resignation.

In her statement, President Samia thanked the politician and expressed gratitude for his significant contribution to the party.

Dr Samia also stressed that the party will continue to use the experience and knowledge of Mr Kinana whenever necessary.

“The ruling party is grateful to Mr Kinana for his great contribution to our party.” the statement added.

Mr Kinana previously served as CCM Secretary General after being appointed by former president and CCM Chairman Jakaya Kikwete in 2012.

He resigned from the post in 2018 with the then President Dr John Magufuli accepting the long serving politician’s request to step down.

The retired colonel served in various posts, including the first Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2006, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence.
