Kombo represents Samia in peace dialogue

SOUTH AFRICA: MINISTER for Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo is representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan in the African Peace and Security Dialogue (APSD) organised by Thabo Mbeki Foundation.
Themed “Towards a Peaceful and Secure South Africa: Challenges and Opportunities,” the APSD which commenced yesterday in Johannesburg, South Africa aims to provide a platform for critical thinking and generate practical solutions to pressing peace and security challenges on the continent.
The dialogue brings together high-level government leaders from Africa, officials from various institutions, scholars and policymakers to discuss and address ongoing peace and security challenges in different parts of Africa with the aim of enhancing a deeper understanding of the challenges and to promote productive discussions that will lead to solutions for the conflicts by considering the context and interests of the African continent.
Former South African President and TMF leader Thabo Mbeki has emphasised the importance of this dialogue, saying, “Africa faces numerous peace and security challenges that have undermined our efforts to achieve development goals and eroded trust in leaders and institutions.”
He further notes that while many African countries grapple with economic difficulties, conflict and governance issues, the APSD seeks to enhance the capacity of leaders, foster a culture of dialogue and co-operation and catalyse action through the TMF’s convening power.
The Thabo Mbeki Foundation was established in 2010 with the aim of initiating and facilitating dialogues and discussions on various issues across Africa, conducting research and policy analysis, promoting partnerships and collaboration on African development matters and empowering women and youths in preserving and promoting African history and culture.
To achieve the goals, along with other objectives, the Thabo Mbeki Foundation implements various programmes, including those of the African Union and international initiatives, such as the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), the African Union Agenda 2063, the African Women’s Empowerment Programme and the Pan-African Youth Dialogue.
