Late Mbuge to be laid to rest on Thursday

MARA: FORMER Head of National Services Major General (Rtd) Charles Mbuge, who passed away on Saturday while receiving medical treatment in India, will be laid to rest in Mara Region on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Jacob Mkunda, final honours for the late Major General Mbuge will take place at Lugalo Military Hospital tomorrow, starting at 3:00 am, before his remains are transported to Kyabakari in Mara for burial.

Born on October 6, 1963 in Nyamongo village, Mara Region, Major General Mbuge completed his primary education at Lugalo Primary School (1974-1980) and his secondary education at Kigurunyembe Secondary School (1981-1984).

He joined the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) on January 1, 1985, and attended various military courses, culminating in his commissioning as an officer on March 28, 1991.

Over a distinguished career spanning 38 years, seven months and four days, he rose through the ranks, attaining the prestigious rank of Major General on June 2, 2020.

The late Major General Mbuge held several significant positions, including Head of the National Service (2019-2021), Regional Commissioner of Kagera (2021-2022) and Coordinator for Disaster Management at the Prime Minister’s Office until his retirement on October 5, 2023.

His unwavering leadership and commitment to the nation left a profound impact on both the military and civilian sectors.

In recognition of his exemplary service, the President and Commander-in-Chief awarded him multiple medals, including those commemorating 40 years of the TPDF, the Comoros Mission, long service, distinguished service and the 50th and 60th anniversaries of Independence and the Union.

Major General Mbuge is survived by his wife and children. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
