Lions to launch Simba Day

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA SC are heading to Mikumi National Park to launch the club’s annual celebration ‘Simba Day’ and among the priority animals to see will definitely be lions.

Simba announced the launch of the highly anticipated event ‘Simba Week’ at Mikumi National Park in the Morogoro region as a complement to the government’s efforts in promoting the tourism sector in the country.

The club’s outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imani Kajula unveiled in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the launch of Simba Week is scheduled for tomorrow, with Simba fans from Dar es Salaam set to travel to Morogoro by the high-speed Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) electric train.

According to Kajula, the train carrying the club’s supporters will depart from the city at 6:00 am and arrive in Morogoro at 7:30 am, where they will be welcomed by their counterparts from Morogoro.

“As a club, we have a responsibility to support the government’s efforts, led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, to promote tourism. This is why we have chosen to launch Simba Week in this unique manner.

“For your information, Mikumi National Park is the country’s top destination for domestic tourists, and we expect many people to attend this launch,” Kajula said.

He added that within the park, there is a good football pitch that will be used for the launch and will also host a football match as part of the event.

“A variety of activities will be conducted throughout the Simba Week, including community outreach, honouring Simba’s founders, and promoting tourism as previously mentioned,” he added.

Chief Conservator of Mikumi National Park, Agustino Masesa, remarked: “Simba is coming to Mikumi and in Mikumi we have lions.

You are coming to meet the real lion. We warmly welcome you and greatly appreciate you for honouring us by coming to launch the Simba Week in our park.”

In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), Masanja Kadogosa, expressed excitement about collaborating with Simba to transport their supporters to the Morogoro region.

“Our core business is transportation and through this partnership, we stand to benefit greatly by promoting our services. Many people will be interested in following how this trip unfolds.

“This is a significant event for our country, and we will be with you every step of the way to and from Morogoro. Furthermore, our transportation fare is reasonable, just 13,000/-, so this collaboration holds great importance for us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nassor Garamatatu, Marketing Officer of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), explained their collaboration with Simba for two main reasons: first, to promote domestic and international tourism through the launch of Simba Week.

Secondly, they recognise the influence that Simba Club wields on social media.

They have conducted numerous campaigns, such as last year’s trips to Mount Kilimanjaro and Visit Zanzibar.

Therefore, they believe this campaign will inspire Tanzanians to visit nearby attractions using the SGR train.
