Local content realised in mining sector

TANZANIA: TANZANIAN companies have continued to record good performance in providing services in various mining companies in the country, a move that complement the introduction and proper implementation of the local content policy.
Speaking to officials from the Ministry of Mining at different times, the JC Gear Group (T) and Rock Solutions Limited companies that provide services in various mining companies in the country, said the local companies manufacture quality equipment and supply various products that are used in mining activities.
The JC Gear Group (T) Limited, Director General, Mr James Makanganya said his company manufactures equipment that are used in mining machines, industries, vehicles and construction materials.
He added that his company also supplies spare parts such as bearings, shafts and gearboxes.
“We also offer technical advises to our clients,” he noted, adding that his company has employed 36 people in various areas, and they are looking forward to expanding business and employ more Tanzanians.
“Our products are used in all mines and in every piece of equipment down to the very bottom of the mines.
We repair and produce items that are widely used in mining machinery, equipment for drilling and crushing stones and heavy machinery used in underground or surface mining,” he said.
“Our company also manufactures equipment that generate electricity, such as turbines and utilises gears for energy distribution—all of which we produce locally,” he added.

On his part, the Rock Solutions Limited Manager, Mr Fabian Mayenga said his company supplies underground and ground mining equipment to mining companies.
“Our company provides the essential equipment needed for mining, such as hammers used in excavation, compressors and lubricants for machinery,” he said, adding; “Our services are comprehensive and cover every aspect of mining, from supplying modern equipment to technical services, including equipment installation support, maintenance and professional consultancy.”
He added that the company currently employs 50 Tanzanians and plans to increase the number to 150 depending on production and business growth.
Principal Mining Auditor from Mwanza Mining office, Mr Elinami Kimaro said the government intention to amend the 2017 Mining Act was to ensure Tanzanians effectively participate in the mining sector through local content.
“I urge fellow Tanzanians in leadership positions within companies that own mines in the country to prioritise hiring local talent.
We have been receiving complaints that some of our compatriots in those positions may be creating barriers for Tanzanian applicants,” he remarked.
He insisted that the Mining Act, section 102, directs that local citizens should be given priority to participate in the value chain of the mining sector, whether by providing products, services, or employment
