Majaliwa stresses good parenting

LINDI: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has called upon parents and guardians to be close to their children and monitor their growth stages to help them become good citizens in the future.
The Premier made the call on Saturday in Lindi Region when addressing believers and stakeholders who attended the fundraising event meant to raise funds for the construction of Cathedral of St Andrew Kaggwa, Lindi Catholic Diocese.
“I would like to encourage parents and guardians to be close to their children and keep an eye on their growth so that they can later become good citizens,” the PM stressed.
Issues of positive parenting have been repeatedly emphasised by national leaders to ensure that Tanzania continues to be a better place to live.
Two weeks ago, President Samia Suluhu Hassan urged parents across the country to prioritise ethical upbringing of their children.
The Head of State issued her remarks during the closing ceremony of a week-long celebration for the ruling party Parents’ Wing at Azimio grounds in the Mlele District of Katavi Region.
“Our children are the future leaders,” she said, “focus deeply on their upbringing” Dr Samia acknowledged the challenges faced by parents in today’s fast-paced world, particularly the time constraints experienced by both working parents and stay-at-home mothers who shoulder a significant burden of agricultural and economic activities.
“We all recognise the struggle for time,” she said, “but the way you raise and nurture children is how they will turn out. Let’s raise them well, so we can have good leaders.”
Regarding the fundraising, the PM managed to raise 928.67m/- for the church construction, of which 464.3m/- is cash, and 464.37m/- in pledges.
He said the first phase of the construction of the church is expected to cost 700m/- while asking those who made pledges to fulfil them to allow the work to proceed.
“The decision of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lindi, Wolfgang Pisa, to start the construction of the cathedral of the diocese, is the implementation of the vision he had since he was appointed to lead the diocese in June, 2022,” he added.
