Mgunda: Simba Queens must win to qualify

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA Queens Coach Juma Mgunda has underscored the critical importance of meticulous preparation as his team gears up for the Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.

Mgunda highlighted that all participating teams are champions from their respective countries and deserve utmost respect.

Despite the challenging nature of the qualifiers, Simba Queens are focused on winning every match to secure a spot in the prestigious CAF Women’s Champions League.

“We must prepare thoroughly to ensure we secure victories and advance to the major African tournament,” Mgunda asserted.

In the upcoming qualifiers, Simba Queens have been drawn into Group B, alongside newcomers Kawempe Muslim Ladies (Uganda), PVP Buyenzi (Burundi) and FAD Djibouti. Group A includes Commercial Bank of Ethiopia WFC, Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan), Warriors Queens WFC (Zanzibar), Rayon Sports WFC and Kenya Police Bullets.

As the reigning champions of the country’s women’s premier league, Simba Queens are reinforcing their squad in anticipation of the new season and the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone.

The team, along with Zanzibar’s Warriors Queens, will represent Tanzania in the qualifiers scheduled from August 17th to 31st in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Under Mgunda’s leadership, Simba Queens are adopting a rigorous approach to their preparation.

The team has bolstered its lineup with the addition of six new players: Saiki Atinuke, Precious Christopher, Wincate Kaari, Emiliana Isaya, Amina Bilal and Josephine Julias.

Having clinched the Zonal trophy in 2022 and reaching the semifinals of the final tournament in Egypt, Simba Queens are eager to showcase their strength once again.

After completing the 2023/2024 league season unbeaten, the team is ready to make a significant impact on the continental stage.
