Minister Pindi to grace Lugalo Ladies Open

THE Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Pindi Chana  is expected to be a chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Lugalo Ladies Golf Open 2023 tournament this weekend.

The annual national-level competition is scheduled to start on Saturday and end on Sunday at the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf course in Dar es Salaam.

Lugalo Chairman Michael Luwongo said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that preparation has been finalised and that they are delighted to have Minister Chana at the closing ceremony.

Luwongo stressed that Lugalo is a fast-growing club, especially for the ladies. That has motivated them to collaborate with Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) to bring the tournament to life.

“In our club, out of 211 members players, 46 are ladies; this is a huge number that needs support,” he said.

TLGU president Queen Seraki said  one of the tournament’s goal is to thank the mother or ladies’ player this month when the world also celebrates International Mother’s Day

He said that Ladies’ golf in the country continues to grow tremendously, and golfers do well locally and internationally.

“As you can see over the weekend, our national team player Madina Iddi has put Tanzania into the spotlight after lifting the Kenyan Amateurs Ladies Open Stroke play title in Kenya,” she said.

She added that the Lugalo Ladies Open is a big tournament involving players of all ages, and he also invited women, even those who are not players to come out in large numbers to learn the game.

Seraki thanked the Chairman of Lugalo Luwongo and his committee for their great support to ladies and complemented the main sponsor Exim Bank and co-sponsors for their support.

Lugalo Ladies Captain Hawa Wanyeche said they are happy to host the 3rd edition of the competition and that course is in good condition.

“This is one of the prestigious ladies’ events; its first edition was held in 2021; the presence of this competition has helped to increase the number of women in the club and Tanzania in general.

Kauthar D’Souza, the Exim Bank Marketing Manager, said they are pleased to be a part of this event and support the development of the game of golf.

She said Exim recognises the importance of connecting women to various sports, and golf being one of those sports.
