MNH wins accolades from NEMC over environment cleanness

THE National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has hailed the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) for taking care of its environment, urging other institutions to emulate such spirit.
The compliments were given on Monday by NEMC Compliance and Monitoring Manager, Mr Hamadi Taimur, when handing over a garbage separation machine to the hospital during the climax of World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5th every year. This year’s theme was ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’.
“If you look around here at Muhimbili, the area is clean; there isn’t any trash left on the ground, and this is because the hospital has a team that oversees the environment’s cleanliness. In fact, we urge others to visit and learn from you (MNH), since this is something to inspire others,” explained Mr Taimur.
He added that NEMC believes that the equipment provided will help to continue to improve the cleaning and environmental protection activities at various areas of the hospital since the hospital produces various types of waste, including hazardous waste.
Receiving the aid, MNH Acting Director of Technical Services and Maintenance, Ms Domiana John, on behalf of the MNH Executive Director, thanked NEMC for the support.
She said the equipment will help further to strengthen hygiene activities at the hospital. Elaborating, Ms John said the hospital’s priority is to ensure cleanliness and safety for various stakeholders entering and exiting the hospital premises.
World Environment Day was developed as a platform to raise awareness of the problems facing the environment such as air pollution, plastic pollution, illegal wildlife trade, sea level increase, and food insecurity, among others.
