Mwinyi, Clerics urge prayers for peace, unity

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, joined by clerics, has urged Muslims to embrace the virtues of Prophet Muhammad during the global celebration of his birthday held yesterday.

Dr Mwinyi highlighted the importance of a stable nation free from misconduct and suffering, calling on citizens to pray for enduring peace, love, unity and compassion.

The appeals were made during the Mawlid Nabbiy celebration, which marked the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday at Maisara Grounds in Zanzibar. The event was attended by ministers, government officials, leaders from private institutions and children.

“As we celebrate Mawlid, let us reflect on the life of Prophet Muhammad, characterised by love, kindness, purity, selflessness and empathy. We should strive to embody these virtues and impart them to our children,” Dr Mwinyi said in a message delivered by Second Vice-President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla.

Chief Kadhi of Zanzibar,Sheikh Hassan Othman Ngwali, encouraged Muslims to use the occasion as a reminder of the Prophet’s exemplary conduct and noble teachings.

He stressed the importance of good parenting and involving children in the celebrations to inspire them with the Prophet Muhammad’s virtues of harmony, love, charity and service to humanity.

Sheikh Ngwali remarked, “To combat immoral conduct, hate, conflict and crime, we must all practice the teachings of the Holy Prophet and strive to live in harmony, love and service to humanity.”

State Minister Haroun Ali Suleiman from the Office of the President (Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service and Good Governance) welcomed the Vice President and underscored his Ministry’s role in religious affairs.

He called for prayers for the nation as it approaches the election season, emphasising, “Let us ensure our security. Every Zanzibari and Tanzanian has a crucial role in maintaining peace and political stability in our communities.”
