Mwinyi: There’s need for unity to tackle climate change challenges

ZANZIBAR: Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has called for stronger collaboration between the Mainland Tanzanai and Zanzibar ministries responsible for environment to tackle the nation’s growing environmental and climate change challenges.
Dr. Mwinyi made the call during a meeting at the State House in Zanzibar with the Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment) Dr. Ashatu Kijaji.
He also stressed the need for both offices to jointly review policies, regulations, and strategies aimed at addressing environmental issues and climate change, emphasizing the value of shared expertise to develop effective solutions.
In response the, Minister in the docket Dr. Ashatu Kijaji revealed said she had designated three days each month to address unresolved Union issues.
She explained that the initiative aimed at expediting the resolution of unresolved Union matters, ensuring no delays in solving critical matters.
She explained that, during these days, officials from the Vice President’s Office will travel to Zanzibar to engage with citizens on environmental and Union-related matters.

She also added that the Ministry will also conduct site visits to joint environmental projects.
“The coordination of Union activities across all sectors under our management demands close collaboration for maximum efficiency. We have formed a team of experts who have already started researching and preparing projects to present to donors for funding of environmental initiatives,” she said.
Dr Kijaji also stressed the importance of public education on carbon trading, describing it as a significant economic opportunity for the nation.
